A Garden is a thing of Beauty

Statement and Techniques

This Garden of Schoenbrunn Palace in Vienna in black and white on linen beckoned me to bring it to life. I started by embroidering the tree trunks and branches, and added leaves in confetti style. These were secured by machine stitching. The hedge was machine embroidered. Flowers were hand embroidered at the base of the hedge and around the small statue.

The sky was enhanced with colour and the statue of Artemisia Mourning Her Husband by Jacob Schletterer and Johann Baptist Hagenauer was washed with cream paint and hand embroidered. I embroidered with French knots some Italian Pines to fill the picture and lastly I quilted Otto enhance the overall photograph.
